Common vocabulary used in Radius applications.RADIUSThe distance from the center of a circle to the outside of the circle. DIAMETERTwice the radius. SSPAN, CHORD, SPRINGLINETerm used to describe the distance from the face of the jamb to the face of the jamb. RISE, CHORD HEIGHTThe distance of the elevation of the arch. COMPOUND RADIUSA curved application where there are more than one radius used on the part. EX: Spiral ascending staircase or arch on curved wall. REVERSE CURVEWhen one radius terminates in a part and flows into an opposite radius in the same part. CONVEXHorizontal outside radius. CONCAVEHorizontal inside radius. SEG ARCHAny segment of a circle that is less than a half circle. HALF CIRCLE ARCHExactly half of a circle having a span that is equal to the diameter and a rise equal to the radius. ELLIPSEAny radius application that does not follow a true radius, these application can be quoted with major and minor axis information, however require a template for manufacturing purposes.
